RE-IMAGINE HONG KONG'S NATURE
A Sensory Exploration by 2041 Hong Kong
Re-Imagine Hong Kong’s Nature - A Sensory Exploration is an exhibition that invites you to see Hong Kong in a new light, revealing the hidden beauty that flourishes amidst its urban environment. This is a journey that engages all your senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch—offering a truly immersive experience.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
At 2041 Hong Kong, we are crafting an extraordinary event that brings the essence of Antarctica into our city's vibrant community. This exhibition is more than just a display; it's a collaborative masterpiece where our honourable partners come together to tell compelling stories. Guests may also join organised activities such as workshops to explore different artistic media and be a part of creative movement. Together, we will unveil a rich tapestry of creative expressions, inviting you to explore, discover, and embark on an adventure full of delightful surprises. This exhibition focuses on achieving three fundamental goals - Ignite Passion for Sustainability: We aim to foster a profound appreciation for sustainability and climate action, inspiring our community to take meaningful steps towards a greener future. - Showcase Artistic Talent: By featuring the works of local young artists, we provide a platform for innovative creativity, encouraging participants to reconnect with nature through powerful and evocative art. - Foster Community Engagement: We strive to promote active participation and meaningful dialogue within 2041 Hong Kong and the broader public, nurturing a collaborative environment that envisions a sustainable tomorrow. Join us in this transformative experience, where the urban and natural worlds blend seamlessly, and every interaction sparks inspiration and change.
THEME
In the fast-paced, ever-transforming landscape of Hong Kong, the vibrant city life often overshadows the natural world. As concrete structures rise and green spaces shrink, it’s easy to feel disconnected and lonely.
This exhibition invites you to pause and reflect on your relationship with nature within the urban jungle of Hong Kong, and help you reconnect with the city and yourself.
We are seeking artworks that explore the dynamic interplay between our senses and the environment around us. Submissions can address one of the five senses and should evoke reflection on how we experience our surroundings, both natural and urban.
For inspiration, you may refer to the following guiding questions:
-
Sight
-
How do the sights of Hong Kong, from sprawling skyscrapers to hidden green spaces, affect your relationship with the city’s environment?
-
-
Sound
-
What are the distinct sounds of nature and the city? Can you capture the music of the waves, birds, or the constant hum of urban life?
-
-
Smell
-
Are there specific smells that are tied to the identity of Hong Kong’s natural or built environment?
-
-
Touch
-
What textures define the environment in Hong Kong? How does the roughness of coral/tree bark, the smoothness of water, or the hardness of concrete make us feel connected to the city?
-
-
Taste
-
How can local flavours tell a story about the environment? Think about food as an expression of land, sea, and culture in Hong Kong.
-
*Artwork under the Sound category is not preferred and will be given low priority.
